New York—The Yankees swept the Brewers in their opening 2025 series with a commanding 12-3 win on Sunday afternoon.

Yankees center fielder Cody Bellinger made a nice running grab to rob Brewers left fielder Jackson Churio of extra bases and potentially save a run in the top of the 1st inning, as Marcus Stroman then walked all-star catcher William Contreas, allowing right fielder Sal Frelick to pick up an RBI single to make it 1-0 Brewers.

Yankees first basemen Paul Goldschmidt led off the 1st inning with a rocket single to left field, then a couple of batters later, the captain right fielder Aaron Judge hit a 2-run moon shot to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Aaron Judge became the first Yankee to hit four home runs in the first three games of a season in Yankees history.

Marcus Stroman worked an easy 1-2-3 top of the 2nd inning on 10 pitches and picked up a strikeout.

The Yankees designated hitter Ben Rice hit a solo home run into the second deck in right field with two outs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to make it a 3-1 Yankees lead.

Stroman worked another 1-2-3 inning in the top of the 3rd inning and picked up his third strikeout of the ballgame.

Aaron Judge was intentionally walked with nobody on base, and then Jazz Chizholm Jr. hit a 2-run bomb 347 feet away into the short porch in right field to make it a 5-1 Yankees lead in the bottom of the 3rd. The Yankees now have 14 home runs in the series, the second most all-time in an opening series.

Jazz talked about the Brewers intentionally walking Judge to face him.

"I'm trying to show people we have a full team of superstars." Jazz said, "It's not just one superstar. We can get it done leadoff through nine. They are all superstars and great hitters, so if you walk one of us, we're going to take advantage of it."

Former Yankee Brewers' first basemen today, Jake Bauers, hit a 2-run shot off the foul pole in right field to cut the Yankees' lead to 5-3 in the top of the 4th inning.

Yankees rookie left fielder Jason Dominguez worked a one-out walk, but that was quickly erased due to a 4-6-3 double play by Ben Rice as the Yankees went scoreless in the bottom of the 4th inning.

Yankees gold glove shortstop Anthony Volpe made an unbelievable diving play to record the first out of the top of the 5th inning. Jackson Chruio picked up a two-out single to end Stroman's day; Tim Hill replaced him and struck out former MVP Christian Yelich for the final out of the 5th.

Marcus Stroman's final line was 4.2 innings pitched, 5 hits allowed, 3 earned runs, 1 walk, and 3 strikeouts on 81 pitches. Stroman did a great job mixing in six different pitches, throwing his sinker 33% of the time, slurve 25%, slider 17%, cutter 17%, splitter 4%, and fastball 4% of the time.

Third basemen Oswaldo Cabrera, Paul Goldschmidt, and Cody Bellinger went down in order in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Tim Hill retired the Brewers in order in the top of the 6th inning and picked up two strikeouts in the process.

The captain Judge started the bottom of the 6th with a walk for the Yankees, followed by a Jazz single; both runners moved into scoring position after tagging up on a deep flyout by Volpe. Judge came across to score on Jared Koenig's wild pitch, followed by an RBI groundout from catcher Austin Wells that allowed Jazz to score and make it a 7-3 Yankees lead.

Mark Lieter Jr. came in to replace Tim Hill on the mound in the top of the 7th inning, as he worked a 1-2-3 inning and picked up two strikeouts.

Rice and Cabrera led off the bottom of the 7th inning with singles to put runners at the corners for the Yankees. Then Goldschmidt picked up an RBI single to make it 8-3 Yankees, then Bellinger picked up a sacrifice fly to make it 9-3, and a couple of batters later, Jazz hit a three-run bomb to make it 12-3, his second of the game. That home run was the 15th of this three-game opening series, tying a Major League record with the 2006 Tigers.

"I think we came back this year with something to prove." Jazz said, "We're all fighting for it. We want to win a World Series; we got so close last year we could taste it."

Fernando Cruz came in to make his Yankees debut and replace Lieter on the mound; he worked around a leadoff walk and picked up a strikeout in the top of the 8th inning.

Cabrera and Goldschmidt both picked up one-out singles to load the bases in the bottom of the 8th, but Pablo Reyes, who pinch-hit for Bellinger, popped out, and Oswald Perza, who pinch-hit for Judge, grounded out to strand the bases loaded.

Ryan Yarbrough came in to close the ballgame out in the top of the 9th and make his Yankees debut, as he picked up a strikeout to help the Yankees win 12-3 and sweep the Brewers.

The Brewers pitchers didn't give Judge much to hit after his 1st inning home run, as he walked three times after that. Judge talked about Jazz coming through behind him in the lineup.

"That was a big time, you know if they're going to pitch around me and put me on." Judge said, "The guy behind me has to step up, and that's what Jazz did today."

The Yankees will host the D-backs on Tuesday. Corbin Burnes will make his debut for the Snakes, and Will Waren will make his season debut for the Bombers. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m. ET.
