Pittsburgh—The Yankees dropped the final game of this three-game series to the Pirates today, 5-4 in an 11-inning back-and-forth game. Will Warren took the mound for the Yankees, and former Yankee Andrew Heaney got the ball for the Pirates.

Cody Bellinger, who missed the last couple of games with back tightness, picked up a one-out infield single for the Yankees in the top of the 1st inning, then a couple of batters later, Jazz Chisholm Jr. cranked an RBI double off the right-center field wall to make it a 1-0 Yankees lead.

Will Warren worked a nice and easy 1-2-3 14 pitch bottom of the 1st inning and picked up two strikeouts.

Former Yankee Andrew Heaney set Austin Wells, Jason Dominguez, and Oswald Perza down in order in the top of the 2nd inning.

Warren set the Pirates down in order in the bottom half of the 2nd inning with help from a beautiful diving stop by Anthony Volpe to rob Andrew McCutchen of a hit.

Trent Grisham picked up a lead-off single in the top of the 3rd inning but was stranded as Bellinger and Aaron Judge both went down in strikes to end the frame.

Warren quickly picked up the first two outs of the bottom of the 3rd inning. A walk and a single set up a 2-run double for Bryan Reynolds, making it a 2-1 Pirates lead.

“The two-out walk there came back to bite us.” Warren said, “Other than that, I feel like I made a lot of good pitches… Two-out walks can't happen. That's where they get you.”

Austin Wells picked up a two-out triple but was stranded following a Jason Dominguez strikeout in the top of the 4th inning.

Tommy Pham picked up a sacrifice fly for the Pirates in the bottom of the 4th inning to make it a 3-1 Pirates lead, then a couple of batters later, Isiah Kiner-Falefa ripped an RBI double into the left-center gap to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

Paul Goldshmidt picked up a two-out single in the top of the 5th inning, but that would be all for the Yankees.

Brent Henrick came in to replace Warren on the mound in the bottom of the 5th inning and worked a 1-2-3 inning.

Anthony Volpe worked a one-out walk but was stranded as the Yankees went scoreless in the top half of the 6th inning.

Brent Hendrick stayed in for a second inning of work and picked up three strikeouts in the bottom of the 6th inning.

Andrew Heaney set the Yankees down in order in the top of the 7th inning, as the former Yankee pitched seven innings of one-run baseball with 10 strikeouts today.

Yondreys Gomez came in to replace Hendrick in the bottom of the 7th inning and worked a scoreless frame as he around a one-out walk.

Former Yankee Denis Santana came in to replace Heaney on the mound for the Pirates and set the Yankees down in order in the top of the 8th inning.

Gomez stayed in for a second inning of work for the Yankees, he pitched a 1-2-3 inning and picked up a strikeout in the bottom of the 8th.

The Yankees were down to their final three outs in the ballgame, but Anthony Volpe legged out a one-out infield single. Then, with two outs, Jason Dominguez worked a walk followed by an RBI double from Oswald Peraza to make it a 4-2 game. The next batter, Trent Grisham, hit a game-tying 2-run single when the Yankees were down to their final strike to tie the game 4-4 in the top of the 9th.

“Great job by the guys bouncing back late.” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, “A little bit of a tough day offensively by us, but what a great rally there to get back in the game in the 9th and give us a chance.”

Luke Weaver came in to replace Gomez on the mound in the bottom of the 9th; he worked a 1-2-3 inning and sent the game to extra innings.

Another former Yankee, Caleb Ferguson, came in to pitch the top of the 10th and worked a scoreless inning.

Weaver stayed in the game to pitch the bottom of the 10th, as he worked into and out of trouble, picking up a strikeout to strand the bases loaded.

Yankees had runners at the corners, with one out in the top of the 11th, but Oswald Peraza struck out, and Trent Grisham flew out to left field to end the inning.

Devin Williams came in to replace Weaver in the bottom of the 11th and gave up a walk-off single to left field by Tommy Pham to give the Pirates a 5-4 win.

“I was just trying to keep the ball down.” Williams said, “He put some really good swings together and just really made me work there in that at-bat.”

The Yankees will head to Detroit to play the Tigers, and Carlos Rodon will take the mound for the Yankees. The first pitch will be at 3:10 p.m. ET on the YES Network.
